They spread all food poisoning bacteria's due to the dirty places rats can inhabit. Sewers, waste bins and tips being among the places rats like to run around in. Rats have been a particuar problem in Preston this last few months. Feeding wild birds is a good thing to do, but be aware that doing this will also attract rats. Try to avoid spillage on the floor. An inverted cone half way up the bird table stand will help prevent rats climbing up to the feeding area. Site the bird table or feeders well away from your house doors and away from vegitation such as hedges and bushes. Do not feed loose feed on the floor.
